Automated Transportation – Changing Cities, Society and Business

This year’s discussion focused on opportunities of fully automated (“autonomous”) transportation for the mobility of people, the delivery of goods and the provision of services in cities. Particular attention was given to the challenges in terms of sustainability, governance and public acceptance that relate to robot-vehicles.

The keynote session were joined by experts and leaders of the automobile industry such as former U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Dr. Thomas Becker, VP of Governmental and External Affairs at BMW Group as well as Giovanni Circella, Director, 3 Revolutions Future Mobility Program, UC Davis and Rodney Slater, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs.

In the following breakout sessions, hosted by research and industry leaders ranging from Human-Centric Urban Mobility to Clouds & Networks, various mobility related topics were brought up and the audience had the opportunity to actively participate in the dialogue.

After the lunch break, the program continued with a dialogue session in which the four session chairs had the opportunity to share their most important findings and build a big picture of the future of mobility

During the closing panel, new industry and research experts in the mobility field reflected on the big picture drawn by the chairmen and drew different perspectives and potential collaborations

The event was hosted by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany.
