TUM Hyperloop SpaceX Competition Celebration 2019
July 22, 2019 @ 7:00 pm PDT
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) Hyperloop Team has consistently engineered the fastest Hyperloop passenger capsule “pod” prototype and won the final round of the race for the past 3 years. In August 2018, the student-built pod reached 290 mph (467km/h), which is the fastest speed ever reached by a hyperloop pod. The team is now introducing its fourth pod and will compete on Sunday, July 21, 2019! Come meet, celebrate, and network with members and sponsors of the team and see their prototype on Monday, July 22 at Base 51 in Hawthorne, CA; register now!
In 2015, SpaceX founder and entrepreneur Elon Musk launched the “Hyperloop Pod Competition” for international university engineering teams to build Hyperloop prototypes. After conceiving of a super-high-speed train shooting through a tube system, Musk set up a 1.2 km long vacuum tube next to the SpaceX headquarters in Los Angeles. The competition has taken place every summer since with several hundred student teams applying each year to pit their pods against one another. Hyperloop could revolutionize intercity travel, making a trip from LA to San Francisco as short as 36 min or from Munich to Berlin as short as 30 minutes.
