Today, the Bavarian Minister for Economic Affairs, Media, Energy and Technology Ilse Aigner presented her yearly Energiewende report. The Energiewende refers to the German policy that aims to source 80% of its energy from renewables by 2050. This year, Bavaria managed to further its lead:
Virtually 40% of the energy produced in Bavaria stems from renewables. No other German state can boast a ratio that high. This is reflected in the German average of 27%. In comparison, the United States’ ratio lies at 13%. The most important among the Bavarian renewables are water power and photovoltaics.
One of the causes of the Bavarian success in this field is the consistent and forceful promotion of this cause by the Bavarian government. One example of this promotion is the 10,000-houses-program which promotes widespread adaptation of innovative environmentally friendly heating technologies.
